Father Sentenced For Child Abuse

OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - An Ottawa County man was in court Monday to receive his sentence for critically injuring his infant son.

Last month a jury found Justin McIntyre guilty of second-degree child abuse.

Police say McIntyre violently shook his six-week-old son Bentley back in August, causing critical head injuries.

Bentley spent several weeks in the hospital before going home to continue his recovery.

Monday McIntyre received 19 months to 120 months in prison, with credit for 157 days served. Restitution will be determined at a later date.

Dad faces charges for biting 2-month-old son, breaking his rib (Boston, Massachusetts)

Dastardly Dads - Mon, 01/28/2013 - 18:16
Sounds like your typical scenario. A batterer who is also a child abuser. No surprise there. In this case, an @$$ hole who BIT HIS 2-MONTH OLD SON and broke his rib because he was "frustrated" from the baby's crying.

Notice that this sh** is in a batterer intervention program, and STILL this guy is full of freaking self pity and takes NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR HIS ACTIONS. It's all pissing and whining about how he's "too young" to go through this. Doesn't even occur to him that his 2-month-old son is too young to be bitten.  Pure batterer narcissism, folks. There is no therapy for this because there is no conscience there.

Dad is identified as STEVEN VALASQUEZ.

Young Boston father faces child abuse charges

Posted: Today at 5:05 pm Updated: Today at 5:26 pm

BOSTON (WHDH) -- A Boston father is facing charges after allegedly abusing his 2-month-old son.

Steven Velasquez asked the court to let him cover his face while he faced charges for hurting his two-month-old son.

“This is my life we're talking about. This is my life we're talking about. I’m too young to be going through this man,” said Velasquez.

Prosecutors said the 19-year-old South Boston man bit his son several times and broke the baby's rib. Doctors found the injuries when the boy was taken to Children's Hospital. The baby's mother tells police Velasquez did it.

“She states that the defendant had done it. He had squeezed the child until the rib had fractured,” said Asst. District Attorney David Newton.

According to the prosecution, the mother also told a Boston Public Housing employee about the alleged abuse saying this:

“He's been abusing me and won't let the kids eat their food. He threw the baby down on the bed. He tossed him because he wouldn't stop crying,” read Newton.

Velasquez is enrolled in a court ordered batterer intervention program. The baby's mother originally told police the bite marks came from another child.

The defense argues allegations against Velazquez come at same time as the couple's unfolding family court battle.

“There's certainly something going on between him and the mother of his children,” said Arthur Shabo, defense attorney.

Velasquez is the father of three children. He is being held on $50,000 bail.

New York Times Urges Gov. Cuomo to Stay the Course and Mandate Criminal Justice Reforms

Innocence Project - Mon, 01/28/2013 - 14:50

An editorial in Monday's New York Times says New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is headed in the right direction to strengthen law enforcement's ability to exonerate the innocent and convict the guilty. Last year, he passed a criminal justice package in the Legislature that omitted important fixes that would greatly reduce wrongful convictions. This year, he is building on recommendations by the Innocence Project and the New York Bar Association's Task Force on Wrongful Convictions to pass reforms that would improve the way police conduct interrogations and identification procedures. The New York Times writes:>/p>

Mr. Cuomo would require the police to videotape interrogations of people charged with serious crimes, including homicides, kidnapping and violent sex offenses - a step that would bring New York in line with 18 states and the District of Columbia.

New York City's police commissioner, Raymond Kelly, has begun to put such a policy in place. This is a positive step, but it does not relieve Albany of the responsibility to establish uniform and enforceable statewide standards.

Mr. Cuomo is also calling for improvements in eyewitness identification. The goal is to make lineups and photographs of suspects less susceptible to the subjective judgment of the enforcement personnel involved.
