Ohio family of raped, murdered 6-month-old watches killer’s execution

Wed, 05/01/2013 - 19:05
LUCASVILLE, Ohio – One family wept loudly and another family cheered Wednesday as a man was executed for killing a 6-month-old as he raped her.

Steve Smith, 46, was executed by lethal injection at the state prison in Lucasville in southern Ohio for the 1998 killing of his live-in girlfriend's daughter, Autumn Carter, in Mansfield.

Smith had recently tried to get his sentence reduced to life in prison, arguing that he was too drunk to realize that his assault was killing Autumn and that he didn't mean to hurt her. The Ohio Parole Board and Gov. John Kasich turned him down unanimously.  Full Article

Girl, 14, forced to become pregnant with donor sperm bought by mother

Mon, 04/29/2013 - 11:37
UK – An American woman is in a United Kingdom prison after repeatedly forcing her 14-year-old daughter to inseminate herself with donor sperm, because the mother wanted another baby and could not conceive or adopt more children.

After a miscarriage at 14, the girl had a baby at 17, after regularly inseminating herself with sperm her mother purchased on the Internet, according to a report in The Guardian.

The girl — a virgin– was apparently too scared to refuse her adoptive domineering mother’s request.

Over a two-year period, the daughter had to inseminate herself seven times, while alone in her room at home, using syringes of semen.

In hopes of getting a girl, the mother forced her daughter to follow a special diet and use painful acidic douches containing vinegar or lemon and lime juice, in the belief it could affect the baby’s gender. Full Article

Sat, 04/27/2013 - 06:58
State corrections secretary Gary D. Maynard ordered polygraph tests Friday of top administrators and "integrity reviews" of every employee at the Baltimore City Detention Center in an effort to root out corruption at the jail.

Maynard has moved his office to the facility from Towson to oversee a review of leadership, staff and operations amid allegations that the Black Guerrilla Family gang developed broad power inside the jail, a spokesman said.

More than two dozen inmates and correctional officers in the city jail are charged in a scheme that officials say involved the smuggling of drugs and other contraband, including cellphones, into the facility.  Full Article

Sat, 04/27/2013 - 06:51
SEATTLE (Reuters) - Seattle police call it one of the boldest attempted drug thefts they have seen: A woman impersonating a nurse, apparently addicted to painkillers, crept through the hospital rooms of patients and tried to steal medication from their IV machines.

"It's pretty unusual, pretty brazen," Seattle police spokeswoman Renee Witt said on Wednesday. "It really shows how desperate this woman is and how powerful addiction can be."

Police are looking for the woman who, dressed in a shirt that resembled scrubs and wearing clogs on her feet, entered a man's room at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle on April 13 and began fiddling with his pain medication IV machine.  Full Article

Woman accused of using ambulance for taxi service over 100 times

Fri, 04/26/2013 - 05:15
DORCHESTER COUNTY, South Carolina - The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office says 51 year old Audrey Ferguson of the Dorchester community has called EMS at least 100 times in the last seven years.

Investigators say Ferguson was faking illness, just to get a free ride to downtown Charleston.

Officials say just about every time she asked to be taken to a hospital.

“She’ll have a vague medical complaint, for instance abdominal pain,” said Dorchester County EMS Director Doug Warren.

“She has medical complaints that are legitimate, and so until she’s been evaluated and determined not to be sick we have to assume she is.”

“We transport her to one of the area hospitals and then oftentimes before we can get our paperwork completed she’s signed out from the hospital and gone on to do other things.” said Warren. Full Article
