Celebrated actor and playwright Sam Shepard is arrested again for DUI, this time in the state of New Mexico where his latest inebriated mugshot was taken.
"Our officer could smell alcohol on his breath, and he had bloodshot, watery eyes," a Sante Fe police spokeswoman explained.
In fact, the arresting patrolman stated that Shepard’s blood-alcohol level was nearly double the legal limit, which made his claim that he’d had only "two” tequilas dubious at best.
It’s the thespian’s second documented arrest for driving while intoxicated in the past few years, although in the most recent incident he reportedly refused a breathalyzer exam.
In 2009, the now 71-year-old film star found himself in police custody on similar charges when he left an Illinois bar for a nearby hotel in a sloppy-drunk condition, and sped through police radar at 16-mph over the limit.
Shepard pleaded guilty to both offenses, paid a $600 fine, and agreed to two years of supervision plus 100 hours of community service for his liberty -- provided he also participated in an alcohol rehab program.
But evidently screen tests as opposed to sobriety tests are Sam Shepard’s true forte.
