Amazon Halts Hoverboard Craze (because they tend to explode)

Best to cross off hoverboards from your Amazon holiday shopping list this year…

Amazon Halts Hoverboard Craze (because they tend to explode)

The leading online retailer has just yanked several brands of the popular scooter from its website stores, following widespread reports that these can burst into flames or even explode.

In fact, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has also decided to take action, after receiving at least a dozen reports (so far) of the *toys* causing house fires from overheating.

USCPSC hasn’t identified the hoverboard manufacturers they’re investigating at the moment, but last month Fit Turbo was flagged online by a customer whose home was destroyed by one of theirs.

Potentially flammable and explosive hoverboards have also led to a number of major airlines prohibiting them as well, in an international ban that includes both carry-on bags and checked luggage.

Many people believe it’s probably defective lithium-ion batteries that are the actual culprit, or else cheaply made foreign knockoffs.

But some product-safety critics are warning that the ‘Back to the Future’ styled skateboards are just plain dangerous unto themselves and “unsafe at any speed.”

Apart from suddenly engulfing riders in flames, they claim hoverboards are inherently too unstable for most average users to keep control of; resulting in a high number of injuries requiring hospitalization.
