Another Poser Shoots Self in Selfie

May 25, 2015

A woman shooting a selfie with a handgun she’d just found in her office workspace shot herself instead.

Authorities in Russia say the 21-year-old is now in critical condition after witlessly posing with a loaded firearm for a quick cell phone pic and pulling the trigger.

Russian media reports the gun was inadvertently left in the victim’s cubicle by a vacationing security guard, who could be facing a six-month vacation in a small prison cell as a result of the gross negligence.

That may seem harsh, considering the wounded woman pointed the weapon at her own head but, "the letter of the law states that firearms, with the owner absent, should be kept in a special safe, beyond the reach of those not authorized to use it," a police spokesman explains.

The unidentified gunshot victim is currently fighting for her life at Moscow's Sklifosovsky Hospital, and is lucky to still be alive in light of the seriousness of her injury.

If the patient does die, however, she’ll hardly be the only individual to perish while distractedly posing for a selfie -- from falling off cliffs to shooting themselves or others dead, millions of obsessively self-absorbed people all over the world are endangering themselves with their mobile cameras these days.

And for significantly less than 15 minutes of fame.
