A Boston cop has been charged with battering a woman during a domestic dispute at his home on Tuesday.
The suspect officer, Patrick McCarthy, faced Middlesex County prosecutors in court yesterday for the off-duty assault of an unidentified female member of his household, and pleaded not guilty.
The 35-year-old, who is accused of slapping, shoving and threatening his victim, has been put on “paid leave” by the Boston Police Department as a result of this week’s violent altercation.
McCarthy’s future with the department will depend upon the outcome of his trial for battery and related criminal counts, according to a BPD spokesman.
The defendant’s relationship with his accuser remains unclear at this time, and he’s not due in court again until the end of September.
His attorney declined to comment on either the incident or pending legal matters.
