BREAKING NEWS: An Amtrak train has derailed in Vermont this morning, about ten miles from the state’s capitol city of Montpelier.
First responders have already arrived on the scene and are reporting “multiple” injured passengers.
A “massive emergency response” is underway, an official spokesperson said, noting that, so far, no dead have been discovered in the wreckage.
At least one car overturned in the accident that saw the Amtrak train leave the rails when it crashed into a rock pile on the tracks.
Personnel from both the Montpelier Fire Department and Vermont’s Emergency Operations Center are actively assisting at this hour.
