Reportedly escaped con Richard Matt has been shot dead in NY today near the border town of Malone trying to carjack a motorist and then fleeing from authorities on foot.
If officially confirmed, Matt’s death marks approximately three weeks since he and fellow fugitive David Sweat diabolically broke out of the high-security Clinton Correctional facility not far from where he was found.
A source at that scene claims Sweat too is being pursued now, as the dragnet continues to tightens around him.
“They don’t have eyes on the guy, but they have a three-mile perimeter around the area,” says a person with knowledge of the ongoing manhunt.
Today’s surprise events represent a significant turnaround in a massive search for the escaped convicted murderers that led many to doubt they were even still in the country.
Thus far two prison employees have been charged with aiding and abetting Richard Matt and David Sweat with their unprecedented jailbreak.
One is alleged to have been romantically involved with the latter, and the other to have traded tools for artwork from both prisoners.
