A cable guy found a baby decomposing in its crib yesterday and today the dead child’s indifferent dad is behind bars for abuse of a corpse, in lieu of a million-dollars bail.
The gruesome discovery was made in Medina Ohio at Eric Warfel’s apartment in the 500 block of Reagan Parkway, and now the county coroner is trying to ascertain what his rotting tot may have died of and when.
Investigators believe the human remains the cable guy accidentally stumbled upon are those of Warfel’s deceased daughter Ember Warfel, who, had she lived, would be almost two-years-old by now.
Records indicate the suspect did in fact lose a infant in 2013, but, if it’s the same one, then he never gave the poor child a decent burial.
His 7-year-old girl, however, was found alive and well with him at a nearby location, but has been placed in the custody of her grandparents, pending further investigation.
Abusing a dead body is a fifth-degree felony, but Eric Warfel will likely face additional charges for neglecting to provide the decomposing baby a funeral, regardless if autopsy and toxicology tests rule out foul play in its death.
