Cops Fear a Killer is At Large in Debs Regional Park of LA

Oct 30, 2015

California officials fear a killer might be targeting visitors “running, hiking or walking” a very popular city park in Los Angeles.

Two slain women were found by a walker in a secluded area of Ernest E. Debs Regional Park this week, compelling police to issue a “high alert” to those who frequent the greenway -- particularly young females.

“We're worried,” a spokesperson for the LAPD acknowledged yesterday, adding that the department’s investigation is new and they “don’t have much” yet.

There have been a handful of attacks on women inside Debs Regional in recent years, although none of those were fatal.

It was, in fact, a woman walking her dog on Wednesday who stumbled upon the corpse of 19-year-old Gabriela Calzada and then that of a second unidentified female lying close by.

Homicide detectives said both victims were fully clothed, suggesting they hadn’t been sexually assaulted before they were murdered.

Their exact causes of death haven’t been released yet, pending autopsies.
