Los Angeles physician Lisa Tseng is the first U.S. doctor ever to be convicted of murder for prescribing painkillers to unstable patients that resulted in their fatal overdoses.
Prosecutors said at least a dozen such people died when Dr. Tseng gave the known addicts “outrageous amounts” of potentially-lethal prescription drugs.
They also told jurors that the prosperous medical offices she opened throughout the LA area were basically “pill mills.”
America is facing an overdosing epidemic this decade, as abuse of prescription medicine, heroin, cocaine, and synthetic drugs has continued climbing to epic proportions.
And, as with the recent overdose-death of Long Island dermatologist Kiersten Cerveny -- found half naked and dead in a NYC doorway after binge partying for days -- physicians too are showing up at the morgue in body bags.
In an effort to address the runaway crisis, “reckless” prescribers like Dr. Tseng are now finding themselves in handcuffs for profiting at the expense of those they’re aware have substance abuse issues.
The 45-year-old disgraced physician sat in a Los Angeles courtroom emotionless this week, as the jury foreman read her guilty verdicts.
She will be sentenced in mid December and faces up to life in prison.
