Two heavily armed Pokemon perps who threatened to harm competitors in last week’s gala gaming championship in Boston, prior to arriving there from Iowa, have been arrested and charged.
Prosecutors say James Stumbo, 27, and his 18-year-old cohort Kevin Norton, brought an AR-15 rifle, a 12-gauge shotgun, and pounds of ammo with them with the intent of shooting up the playing-card playoffs.
For that, the pair of disgruntled gamers will be arraigned on unlawful possession of firearms and other criminal counts related to the premeditated crime they were hoping to perpetrate together.
Security for Boston’s Hynes Convention Center, where the Pokemon championship was being hosted through the weekend, had grown concerned over violent online threats issued against some contestants and alerted the Boston police about the potential for a massacre.
According to the criminal complaint, suspects Stumbo and Norton did in fact attempt to enter the guarded facility on Thursday, but were turned away at the door.
They were both located at their hotel room shortly after being denied entry to the international gaming event and arrested.
