Celebrity judge Joe Brown has served his 5-day sentence for contempt of court and is now expressing his contempt for jail, referring to the prison digs he stayed in as “slave quarters.”
“It’s boring, it’s dirty,” the 68-year-old free man also complained, following his release this week. “But I survived and I’m breathing free air.”
Judge Joe Brown earned the ire of a judicial colleague in Memphis last year when he publicly berated the family court magistrate for being “arrogant” and “mistreating” a female defendant mired in a custody battle.
“He seemed to be very impatient,” Brown still insists today. “He didn’t want to be there.”
Court officials counter that assessment as a bit too flip, however, and justify Judge Brown’s contempt-of-court charge and sentencing because he “launched a diatribe” and challenged the “authority of the court.”
Whatever -- the formerly incarcerated judge told People Magazine he’s working on another daytime television gig --‘True Verdict With Judge Brown’ -- so, while jail sucks, it clearly hasn’t harmed his career.
