Justice For Apollo: Man Who Slowly Strangled Dog Charged With Cruelty (see photos)

Pennsylvania police have charged Jason French below for tortuously strangling to death his adopted dog ‘Apollo’ because the black Labrador “wouldn’t stop barking.”

Arresting officers said the 33-year-old man “showed no remorse” when describing for them how he asphyxiated the young canine over the course of three hours on Tuesday:

“You wouldn't think it would take that long with a dog that size,” the suspect said, according to the criminal complaint filed against him.

The patrolmen found French’s victim lying in the backyard of his Irwin PA residence.

They estimated that the murdered animal weighed only about 30 pounds at the time of death, suggesting it may also have been malnourished.

Jason French was approved for adopting by the shelter housing Apollo back in 2013.

A spokesperson there said he had passed the standard background checks required for all such permanent placements.

French was charged this week with one count of misdemeanor animal cruelty for his sick crime -- Pennsylvania apparently doesn’t allow for felony prosecutions of those who abuse or even slay their pets.
