Krebs Suspects @deuszu for #AshleyMadison Hack

Aug 28, 2015

Security specialist Brian Krebs suspects Twitter user @deuszu played a key role in the #AshleyMadison hack attack that led to disastrous disclosures of the adultery site’s member lists and infidelities.

According to Krebs, clues in advance of the initial privacy intrusion of Avid Life Media’s 30-million user accounts last month began appearing in the culprit’s twitter-feed, which was dominated by AshleyMadison[dot]com news tweets.

Among those virtual breadcrumbs was a link to the hacked source code itself, which had yet to be published online by the still-anonymous hackers dubbed “Team Impact.”

Another hint of @deuszu’s possible involvement in the cyber crime was a prior Twitter reference to the same AC/DC tune that greeted ALM employees logging in on the day their cheaters’ site-security was compromised.

Krebs said the owner of that Twitter account had already changed their avi to that of AC/DC’s logo and tweeted as well that they were listening to the song.

Since then, asserts Brian Krebs, @deuszu has allegedly been obsessed with the sex and hacking scandal, relentlessly tweeting #AshleyMadison updates, to the neglect of any other news stories.

Krebs’ suspicions are just that, of course, and the evidences he points to would be considered largely circumstantial in a court of law. However, they do appear important enough to have prompted authorities to look into the unidentified #Twitter account-holder’s online and real-time activities.

So far though, no suspects have been publicly named or arrested for the massive cyber breach in July, nor the subsequent data dump earlier this month which caused marital mayhem for millions across the globe, major class action lawsuits, and at least two confirmed suicides.
