Police say a heroin ring operating out of North Adams, Massachusetts was actually a prosperous mother and child enterprise.
The bust this week of that illicit family business turned up nearly 700 bags of dope stored in a shoebox, together with two illegal firearms and $16,000 cash.
Glendaliz Rios and her teenage son, a student at nearby Drury High School, were both arrested on Monday, April 13, 2015, following the surprise raid of their apartment.
Their valuable stash, which was seized as contraband, had apparently been stored in a closet in the 16-year-old suspect’s bedroom where a second, much younger child, also slept.
Because of the age of her co-offender and her relationship to him, the 32-year-old Rios is also facing a slew of domestic charges related to her son’s heroin distribution, in addition to drug and weapon violations.
Neither the youth’s name nor his official whereabouts have been disclosed because he is a minor, but his mom has pleaded not guilty on all criminal counts and is currently being held on $35,000 bail.
