Missing Baby Lonzie Barton Is Related to Missing Child Haleigh Cummings (photos)

Jul 27, 2015

Missing baby Lonzie Barton has suffered the same fate of another missing child he’s related to, though the odds of that being a coincidence seem pretty slim.

In fact, the suspicious disappearance of 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings six years ago is one of the few Amber Alert investigations in the state of Florida that has never been solved.

Amber Alert issued for Lonzie Barton of Florida, age 21 months,

According to the Barton family, Baby Lonzie’s biological father is related to Haleigh’s biological mother, although the prime suspect in the little girl’s disappearance in February 2009 was to be future-mom Misty Cummings.

Sadly, Haleigh Cummings is presumed dead at this point, even though her body was never found, but no one has ever been prosecuted in her vexing kidnap case.

STILL MISSING: Haleigh Cummings is related to missing baby Lonzie Barton (how weird is that?)The prime suspect in her young relative Lonzie Barton's vanishing is now in custody though, after police decided his rather unbelievable versions of how the toddler “was abducted” from his “stolen” car last week had to many holes.

On Saturday deputies finally arrested William Ebron -- the 32-year-old love interest of the missing baby’s mother and a hardened criminal -- on charges of child neglect.

Authorities suspect he alone is responsible for Lonzie’s disappearance, noting that the boy’s mother, Lonna Barton, is being “very cooperative” in efforts to find her missing son or his remains.

That same level of cooperation has not been offered by the now-jailed William Ebron, of course, complained Chief of Detectives for the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, Tom Hackney.

“If Mr. Ebron would cooperate a little more" he said, “we could have a successful resolution to this.”

Hackney did hint, however, that critical evidence was discovered in recent searches for Lonzie Barton over the weekend:

“We are looking into a potential piece of evidence that was going to be recovered [or] either is being recovered or has been recovered," Hackney mysteriously announced at a press conference Saturday evening.

The detective also ominously stated that, while the missing 21-month-old Florida boy is still thought to be alive, “as time progresses that hope fades.”
