Mohammed Morsi Death Sentence Upheld and Condemned.

Jun 16, 2015

America once again condemned the Mohammed Morsi death sentence, upheld by an Egyptian court on Tuesday, June 16, 2015.

The fallen Islamist leader has been sentenced to die for a prison break orchestrated in 2011 that coincided with violent social revolt and his rise to power as Egypt’s first “freely elected” president.

But Morsi’s political popularity was to be short lived -- he was deposed by the military two years later, amid widespread discontent and public demands for his ouster.

Five other jailed members of his Muslim Brotherhood party, who also have a date with the executioner, had their sentences affirmed this week, too.

Those rulings will automatically be appealed now, pursuant to Egyptian law, but it’s doubtful they’ll be overturned.
