Ohio has sentenced a Munchausen by Proxy poisoner to six years in prison this month for deliberately sabotaging a child’s heath and medical care.
The woman was caught on hospital security cameras in January fouling her 9-year-old son’s IV bag with fecal matter, apparently so he would spike a fever.
For the heinous crime, Candida Fluty, 35 of West Virginia, was charged with two counts of felonious assault and child endangerment each, but pleaded those charges down to one count of endangering a minor in exchange for a reduced sentence.
WAS BLUESMAN BB KING POISONED TO DEATH?
Reuters News agency is reporting that her child has already been placed in the custody of a trusted relative where he is said to be thriving now.
"We are satisfied with the plea and sentence," Chief Assistant Prosecutor Julie Wilson announced following the verdict. "Our concern was for her child and we hope that he is doing well."
Prosecutors believe the suspect likely suffers from Munchausen by Proxy Syndrome, a psychiatric illness that almost exclusively affects female caregivers and is seemingly on the rise this decade.
The disorder is manifested by a criminal desire for attention and praise which is achieved either by fabricating health symptoms in others or, more often, by intentionally making people chronically sick -- and sometimes even killing them.
