Murder Trial Begins for Florida Man Who Facebooked Photo of Slain Wife (plus a confession)

Nov 3, 2015

Derek Medina was charged with murder after he shot his young wife to death then posted a gory picture of the dead woman on Facebook, alongside his confession:

“Im going to prison or death sentence for killing my wife love you miss you guys takecare Facebook people you will see me in the news … my wife was punching me and I am not going to stand anymore with the abuse so I did what I did I hope u understand.”

An attorney for the 33-year-old defendant told the trial judge yesterday that Medina murdered 27-year-old Jennifer Alfonso “in self defense” because she had “battered” him for years and “came after him with a knife.”

The lawyer also claimed there was ample evidence to prove that his client’s victim was involved in drugs and the occult.

Medina is a skilled amateur boxer though, and prosecutors further countered he made numerous public threats he would kill his wife “if she ever tried to leave him.”

Witnesses stated that was precisely what Jennifer Alonso was planning to do in August 2013, when her abusive husband gunned her down to prevent it.

Jury selection in Derek Medina’s murder trial begins today.
