Forensic experts have provided a new lead for a dead Baby Doe girl found in a plastic garbage bag weeks ago on a Massachusetts island.
A lab in Texas discovered that pollen samples on the toddler’s body and clothing could have only come from the Boston area, confirming investigators’ hunches that the 4-year-old and her callous caretakers are locals.
Examiners completed the tree pollen analysis last week, following a series of dead-end testing that hasn’t even determined the cause or manner of death for the dark-haired, brown-eyed Baby Doe, let alone who she could be.

The deceased child with a haunting pixie face was found on June 25th by a dog-walker and, ever since then, police and the public have been desperately trying to ID the tiny victim.
Prosecutors also want to find and charge the party who heartlessly dumped her uninjured corpse on the deserted shore of Deer Island, presumably after the youngster died from yet-unknown causes.
"Our job as police is we want to speak for her by determining how she died and holding accountable whoever's responsible for disposing of her body in that manner," a spokesman for the Massachusetts State Police told 48 Hours this week.
"But the most basic question is: Who is she? What's her name?"
