Missing Person Alert: Jon Steindorf (photo)

May 11, 2015

This missing person alert is for Jon Steindorf, 23, who is believed to have disappeared from the Penn State university area last week and may be in crisis.

Steindorf, who apparently did not inform his family that he wasn’t enrolled at the college any longer, was expected to rendezvous there with his mother for graduation services, but failed to show at the designated hour or spot.

A search of his apartment revealed he had left behind his keys, phone, ID, cash and credit cards, without telling anyone where he was headed -- conduct which is said to be exceptionally uncharacteristic of him.

Missing: Jon Steindorf, 23, Penn State

“The police have gone through his apartment, talked to his roommate and took his phone for forensic analysis,” his mother says. “We’ve been in contact with all his friends, everybody they know, and really are just at a loss as to his whereabouts.”

Now the young man is being sought by both campus police and his parents, who are extremely worried about his welfare.

Pennsylvania officials say that since broadcasting a missing person alert for the youth they’ve received a number of tips concerning potential sightings, but none of these have been verified yet.

Jon Steindorf is a Caucasian male about 5-feet-10 and 170 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. He may be carrying a red backpack and traveling on a “specialized” black bicycle.

Anyone with information about what happened to him or his current whereabouts is urged to call police ASAP at (814) 234-7150.
