New York rapper Chinx died in a drive-by shooting early Sunday morning, shortly after completing his performance at Brooklyn’s popular Club Red Wolf.
The hip-hop rising star, whose real name is Lionel Pickens, was just 31-years-old when he was gunned down while traveling in a silver Porsche through the borough of Queens.
He suffered multiple bullet wounds, mainly in the torso, and his younger companion, who was shot at least twice in the back, is now listed in critical condition.
NYC media outlets report the vehicle the two were riding in was riddled with bullet holes in a surprise assault that’s reminiscent of similar drive-by assassinations of rap icons, such as that of Biggie Smalls.
Chinx rapped with French Montana and was affiliated with Montana’s Coke Boys label.
Apart from his being a card-carrying member of the most violent music genre the world has ever known, the motive for his brutal murder isn’t yet clear.
