One or more suspects in the attempted siege of police headquarters in Dallas today are now surrounded in what Texan officials are describing as an armed standoff.
The assault on the Dallas Police HQ at the witching hour this morning took officers inside by surprise.
They say up to four individuals orchestrated the comprehensive attack which reportedly even involved the use of an armored vehicle and duffle bags of explosives.
Whoever they are, and whatever their original aims, no police were killed in the barrage of gunfire and pipe bombs, although a number of squad cars were damaged as well as parts of the building.
According to NPR sources, at least one shooter has fled the scene and is currently cornered inside his vehicle in a Dallas suburb standoff.
Investigators say they are discussing his various “grievances” with him -- which appear to include a 2013 arrest and the loss of custody over a child -- and are actively trying to negotiate the man's surrender.
