Police say former MLB player Darryl Hamilton was shot dead by lover Monica Jordan at the mansion they shared in suburban Houston Texas, who then killed herself with the murder weapon.
The slain couple’s infant son was not harmed in yesterday’s deadly domestic dispute and is now in child protective custody.
Officers discovered the crime scene when responding to a 911 call about a disturbance in the lavish residence which is believed to have been owned by the suicidal perpetrator.
Hamilton, 50 and a celebrated Major League Baseball outfielder, was found dead of multiple gunshot wounds near the front door of the home, and his 44-year-old girlfriend, who died of a single bullet to the head, was located in a room nearby.
Autopsies are underway and the investigation into the tragic murder of the former NY Mets and Brewers star is ongoing, but officials claim it wasn’t the first time that his killer was reported to police for dangerous behavior.
According to one district attorney, in 2008 Jordan was involved in a potentially-deadly confrontation with her now-ex husband, in which she pursued the man with gasoline in an effort to set him on fire.
She burned down their house and garage instead.
The alleged motive in that attempted murder-by-arson was retaliation for an infidelity, Jordan reportedly said, while pleading guilty to felony charges related to the over-the-top event.
Although Jordan’s ex-mate escaped that particular incident without injury, "the circumstances were very severe,” explained the DA. "I have spoken to my staff every now and then -- when we're talking about an arson I would talk about this case."
The fact that Darryl Hamilton was shot dead by lover Monica Jordan in a murder-suicide is therefore probably not shocking to local authorities, but the untimely death of this superb athlete and sports analyst is now being mourned by baseball fans worldwide.
