A pair of house burglars who found a woman dead stole her identity and went on a spending spree at her expense, say police in Washington state.
The two men were apprehended over the weekend after breaking into a rural home earlier this month and, finding the owner deceased, taking her credit cards and whatever other valuables were lying around, then leaving with the booty and her body.
Unbeknown to them, though, their 63-year-old victim had just been reported missing by concerned coworkers, perhaps even on the same day they selected her place to burglarize.
Dumb and Dumber were caught soon thereafter because they hid her corpse on one of their own properties, making them easy to find with a cadaver dog once the dead woman’s credit union alerted officials about unusual activity on her bank cards.
The suspects have not been charged in her death, however, because investigators believe she died of natural causes.
