Death Sentence for the Sledgehammer Slayings of Ohio Couple.

Jul 1, 2015

An Ohio killer now faces a death sentence for the sledgehammer slayings of a couple whose daughter he had almost killed 10 days earlier for refusing to have sex with him.

Shawn Ford, 20, had already been convicted of aggravated murder for brutally bludgeoning Margaret and Jeffrey Schobert in the spring of 2013, but now the same jury has thrown the book at him.

Ford enlisted a younger juvenile to stage the lethal assault on the Schoberts in two parts, since, at the hour he murdered Mr. Schobert in the family’s home, Schobert’s wife was at the hospital attending to their critically injured daughter.

The two youths then sent the unsuspecting woman phony text messages urging her to come back to the residence, whereupon she too was beaten to a bloody pulp.

This week’s capital punishment verdict applies only to defendant Ford for the sledgehammer slayings, and is automatically appealable. His accomplice Jamall Vaughn, now 16, previously pled guilty to charges related to aggravated murder and robbery.
