The highly public Cosby downfall may soon include an arrest, as the LAPD confirms that the pariah performer is now the subject of a criminal investigation.
Their active probe of new rape charges coincides with revelations that Bill Cosby admitted in a 2005 sworn deposition that he bought Quaaludes so he could “have sex” with young females the famous actor was “mentoring."
The plaintiff in that particular civil action to recover damages from a decades-old sexual assault is determined to release all sealed court documents if a judge okays it, even though defendant Cosby confidentially settled with her for an undisclosed sum.
Because Cosby’s alleged crime spree spans his entire life, most of the 77-year-old’s accusers are time-barred from seeking either civil or criminal redress for the date rapes they’ve said they endured when he drugged them without their knowledge.
But the LAPD’s current sex assault investigation reportedly involves more recent accusations of doping and raping, for which the statute of limitations might not yet have expired.
That criminal complaint “may” also concern "multiple" victims, a spokesperson for the department has broadly hinted.
Meanwhile the disgraced performer still faces other pending litigation related to defaming some three-dozen females who’ve so far come forward with similar accounts of sexual violations; all of whom portray the formerly trusted celebrity as a lifelong predator who specialized in betrayal and serial rape.
With the release this week of a previously sealed confession to that same kind of wrongdoing, any support Cosby managed to maintain throughout the growing scandal completely vanished overnight. With the exception perhaps of Whoopi Goldberg.
And yesterday, in an ominous foreshadowing of Cosby’s bleak future, a large bronze statue of the once-celebrated comedian -- which had stood for eons at Disney’s popular Hollywood Studios theme park, also came crashing to the ground.
