Woman Murders Infant, Husband - Attempts Suicide

Jul 21, 2015

A Washington state woman confessed Monday she fatally shot her husband and 17-month-old son before attempting to commit suicide, according to the Whatcom County Sheriff's Office.

Police said she would likely be charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

Although the victims were discovered Sunday, Erin Agren, 43, told police she killed her son, Miles, and her 59-year-old husband, Michael Jordan, days ago.

She allegedly tried to shoot herself in the chest, but hit her shoulder instead and survived.

The couple’s real estate agent, Steve Mullenix, found the gruesome scene Sunday when he arrived to prep the for-sale house to potential buyers.

He broke into the locked home when he heard a woman yelling for help. Mullenix said he found Agren lying next to her dead husband and son in an upstairs bedroom.

Both Agren and Jordan were teachers at Lummi Nation School in Bellingham and had been married for a few years.

Popular for his mentoring of at-risk youth, Michael Jordan started teaching on the Lummi Reservation in 2008.

Counseling was offered at the K-12 school on Monday for grieving friends, students and staff. A remembrance ceremony for the slain educator and his son was also held.

Police said they are not looking for any additional suspects, but are still investigating the motive for the murders.
