Forest Mom Loses Custody of Babe Birthed in the Woods

Jul 25, 2015

A pregnant woman who took a wrong turn into the wilderness last month on the way to Grandma’s house, then birthed a baby girl in the woods and started an SOS forest fire so they’d be rescued, has just lost custody of the newborn.

Doctors at the hospital Amber Pangborn, 35, and her infant daughter were subsequently taken to by first responders announced this week that toxicology tests on both mother and child revealed meth in their bloodstreams.

Thus dope-addled Baby Marissa, who otherwise seems healthy, was placed into protective custody.

Pangborn’s not unaccustomed to losing her kids though -- she’s voluntarily surrendered three older daughters over the years -- but her newest one she vowed to get back from California’s department of Child Protection Services.

The suspected meth head did, however, admit to taking methamphetamines during the three days she was stranded in Plumas National Forest, but merely to “boost” her energy while birthing a babe in the woods.

Meth, which can be made in home labs with over-the-counter products, has become a major menace this decade, and is a highly addictive and physically devastating drug. Not to mention, of course, illegal.

But Amber Pangborn dismisses any risks that using the substance, even if only occasionally, might pose a small and helpless child:

"There's no risk to my daughter or anything," she told reporters this week.
