Animal rights activist and Jackass star Steve-O has been arrested for a SeaWorld protest this weekend that was mistakenly perceived by onlookers as a suicide jump.
The San Diego stunt involved climbing a 10-story construction crane that overlooks Hollywood, and inflating a blow-up killer whale named ‘Shammy’ with the words “SeaWorld Sucks” scrawled across its plastic torso.
The entertaining spectacle was offset with fireworks so it couldn’t be missed, but evidently didn’t go over too well, judging by the number of cop cruisers and fire engines that swiftly assembled 100-feet below.
Known for similar humorous acts of athleticism in the Jackass movie franchise, daredevil Steve-O (aka Stephen Glover) later posted an update on Instagram and Facebook:
“Anyone wanna bail me out of jail?” he said.
A spokesman for the LAPD said their celebrity suspect will likely face charges now for trespassing, lighting fireworks without a permit, and conspiracy to commit a crime.
It’s the second time the socially-minded stuntman has been busted for advertising his negative views of the thoughtless theme park’s exploitation and abuse of captive orcas.
In December Steve-O ended up in handcuffs after he pulled off the side of the freeway to vandalize a highway sign directing tourists to Seaworld’s San Diego attraction.
