Maryland police are sad to report that Batman is dead, after being mortally wounded this weekend in a fatal collision involving his Batmobile.
Highway patrol found the Dark Knight -- aka Leonard Robinson -- deceased in the fast lane of Interstate-70 Sunday night.
The 51-year-old superhero impersonator, who for years brought joy to hospitalized children, got clipped in the act of tweaking the engine of his tricked-out vehicle.
The driver of the other car was uninjured in the crash and is not likely to be charged.
Batman Robinson made headlines a few years ago when he was pulled over in costume by a traffic cop and a dashcam video of him being ticketed in his Batmobile was uploaded to the Internet.
He is said to have spent thousands of dollars per year to maintain the authenticity of his disguise and to buy toys, books and t-shirts for ailing and sometimes dying kids in the Baltimore-Washington area.
The real-life caped crusader will surely and sorely be missed -- RIP, Leonard “Batman” Robinson.
