BREAKING NEWS – a professor has been shot dead at Delta State University in Mississippi and a campus lockdown is in place as police search for the gunman.
Delta State officials first announced via Twitter @DeltaState an “active shooter” and pursuit in progress scenario late this morning:
“Campus remains under lockdown,” they tweeted at around 11 a.m (noon EST)., “more information will be distributed as available.” Followed shortly by “please stay inside and away from windows.”
The slain assistant professor, who reportedly teaches Native American history, has been identified as Ethan Schmidt by school administrators.
The county coroner confirmed he was shot dead at his office in Jobe Hall.
One gunman is suspected at this time and he (or she) still remains at large -- check back with Crime Magazine for additional coverage.
