Supertramp Benjamin Yoho is no longer homeless, after Colorado police convicted him this week of littering up a national park with about four tons of garbage over a 6-month period.
Not coincidentally, six months is precisely how long the unemployed vagabond will now be spending in the slammer for his litterbug ways, said a sheriff’s spokesman this weekend.
Yoho had been squatting in the Uncompahgre National Forest from October 2014 until April 2015, during which time he slapped together an illegal habitat, dumping roughly 9000 pounds of refuse and *household* waste along the way.
While prosecutors and the court were sympathetic to his homeless status, it was determined that he still needed to be incarcerated for the unprecedented “trashing” of designated wilderness “as a warning” to other likeminded offenders.
Hobo Yoho will then be subjected to a year of probation once he’s served out his sentence, said Colorado’s U.S. attorney, who also noted that it took several dozen park workers and volunteers -- and even a helicopter -- to clean up the mess he made.
