Texas authorities took ex-college footballer Thomas Johnson into custody and charged him for the machete murder of a jogger in a Dallas park on Monday morning.
Investigators believe the victim was chosen at random after the former Texas A&M wide-receiver mentally snapped about being evicted from his residence.
Johnson, 21, fatally attacked a young Caucasian male on a nearby trail popular with walkers, bikers and runners.
The weapon he used was described as “large edged” and the sound it made reverberated throughout the park, according to one eyewitness who both heard and saw the suspect “repeatedly hitting” the slain jogger’s neck with it.
A spokesman for the DPD indicated that Thomas Johnson had been in trouble with the law well before this “unusual” and “shocking” show of violence, and his behavior was a source of concern even to his own family.
He allegedly confessed to police that he was bent on hacking an innocent stranger to death yesterday because he “was angry” about his deteriorating situation.
