DNA tests done on the dismembered Garfield Park toddler (see sketch below) and the mother of a missing Indiana boy are a mismatch, authorities from two states announced this week.
The severed head, feet and hands found in a Chicago Illinois park lagoon early last month are “not those of King Walker,” they said.
The Walker child vanished with his 21-year-old mentally disabled aunt around the same time as it’s estimated that the body parts of a young victim matching his description were “weighted” and dumped in Garfield Park.
The two young children share similarities, but the Indiana boy is still missing -- and therefore presumed to be alive -- whilst the identity of the mutilated one, as well as the rest of the slain baby’s corpse, continues to elude detectives.
However, a spokesman for the Chicago Police Department said they are still awaiting the results of DNA tests on the mother of a third missing child, Kyrian Knox, a two-year-old boy missing from nearby Rockford Illinois since August 2015.
The above police sketch of the dismembered Garfield Park toddler was provided by an artist with the CPD. Homicide detectives are still working this case and ask that anyone with information about it contact them at (312) 744-8261.
Likewise, Indiana police are asking anyone with information about 2-year-old King Walker and his aunt Diamond Bynum to call Detective Sergeant Gregory Wolf at (219) 881-1210, or leave a crime tip at 866-CRIME-GP.
A reward of $10,000 is also being offered by the Knox family for tips that lead them to their still-missing young relative. Tips on this child’s missing persons case may be directed to police at (815) 987-5824 or Crime Stoppers at (815) 963-7867.
