Biting Airline Passenger was Likely on Meth and Died of Excited Delirium (autopsy)

Oct 19, 2015

An autopsy is being performed today on the body of a biting airline passenger who likely overdosed on meth and died of ‘Excited Delirium’ while being restrained aboard an Aer Lingus plane.

The 24-year-old Brazilian man’s older female companion was taken into custody once the Dublin-bound flight was rerouted to Cork Ireland due to last night's midair incident.

Detectives said the 44-year-old Portuguese woman was transporting about five pounds of powdered methamphetamine in her carry-on luggage.

EMTs were waiting on the tarmac to administer emergency aid to the stricken man she was traveling with, but he was pronounced dead upon landing.

Other passengers described his sudden violent fit, seizure and death as “anguished,” stating that the guttural sounds he made while dying on the plane were “not something you hear every day.”

The victim’s unprovoked aggression and life-threatening medical symptoms aren’t unheard of as far as law enforcement agencies are concerned, however.

According to police, such dangerous encounters with suspects are becoming more and more commonplace now, and they’ve even dubbed the potentially-fatal condition Excited Delirium.

They blame the growing popularity of synthetic drugs for the troubling uptick in these bizarre and often deadly rages.
