Two 22-year-old Illinois men have been arrested for the brutal beating of an elderly dog with boxing gloves last week.
Andrew Meegan and Ryan Ramon of Moline have each been charged with animal cruelty for their joint attack on a 12-year-old friendly mix-breed named Bear.
The aged canine the two singled out for abuse wasn’t even their own pet, according to the incident report.
The frightened animal was found with blood coming from one of his eyes and other wounds after the pair used him as their punching bag for sport.
Several eyewitnesses turned the suspects in to police after they refused to stop pummeling the senior dog when ordered to.
Officers said that, when they questioned Meegan and Ramon at the scene, both initially denied beating Bear, then lied and said he bit them first, though neither man had any bite marks.
Bear is safe at an animal rescue shelter now, recuperating from his injuries and psychological trauma.
