A street crowded with trick-or-treaters and a careening car turned Halloween into a real life horror yesterday in New York City.
Police are still trying to determine the cause of the fatal crash that left a trail of “mangled” bodies and three costumed revelers dead -- including a young child -- in a residential neighborhood of the Bronx.
A spokesman for the NYPD said countless other onlookers were injured when a 52-year-old man began driving erratically and his vehicle jumped the curb, sailing through the air before striking pedestrians and coming to rest on a brick wall.
The unnamed motorist also suffered injuries in the bloody mayhem, which, according to numerous eyewitnesses, started with a “loud boom” just at the height of Halloween festivities.
Detectives are still combing through the crime scene this morning. No charges have been filed against the driver yet.
