Hundreds of public officials’ porn is key to the case of a prosecuted prosecutor in Pennsylvania … so a judge has unsealed all that vulgar evidence this week.
The state’s attorney general, Kathleen Kane, faces perjury charges for leaking the formerly-sealed smut that was generated by her predecessor and his aides, then lying about having done so before a grand jury.
Critics in high-places said she maliciously released the crude and offensive communiqués solely in an attempt to smear those who opposed her or who she perceived to be political enemies.
On one hand Kane’s right -- state officials sending each other pornography and similarly offensive messages, while at the same time prosecuting ordinary citizens for doing the same, goes far beyond hypocrisy into the realm of high crimes and malfeasance.
But using one’s office to gut multiple rivals with a single blow is no small abuse of power, either.
The quagmire created by Pennsylvania’s number-one prosecutor carrying on like a common thug with a grudge -- and having to defend herself in court for such misconduct this year -- is also obscene.
Because those charges do threaten to interfere with her legitimate duties now, both supporters and opponents of the embattled attorney general are urging her to be reasonable and resign. Even if she can ultimately prove her innocence.
So far, though, it doesn’t appear that Kathleen Kane is capable of seeing to reason.
