Serial Bride: I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do…

Apr 11, 2015

A serial bride who’s said “I do” at least 10 times in as many years, and who may still be technically married to half her hubbies, has been arrested in New York City and charged for her elaborate wife-for-hire scam.

Liana Barrientos, 39, pleaded not guilty yesterday to two counts of filing a false instrument, although more charges could still be filed, if the statute of limitations on those earlier offenses hasn't expired.

Since 1999, the nuptial profiteer has been routinely tying the knot with foreign men seeking to obtain American citizenship and willing to pay a premium to get it.

A spokesman for the Department of Homeland Security says the marriage maven has so far collected husbands from Egypt, Turkey, Bangladesh, Russia, Mali, the Czech Republic and Pakistan.

At one point Barrientos was *legally* wedded to eight such fake grooms at the same time, albeit not all of them ultimately gained U.S. citizenry.

According to NY prosecutors, Liana Barrientos filed her marriage certificates in Yonkers, Eastchester, Huntington, Rye, Hempstead, Ramapo, Mamaroneck, Greenburgh, and White Plains, but was snagged this month for a bogus Bronx wedding.

Now, the serial bride could face at least four years in prison if convicted. Until then, she's been released on her own recognizance without bail, and is next due in court on May 18th.
