Seven Dead Babies Found in Bavarian Flat - Germany

Nov 13, 2015

German authorities have cordoned off a Bavarian apartment as a crime scene today, after finding seven dead babies stashed there.

The body of one infant was first discovered yesterday by a local woman, and a search of the premises turned up six more on Friday.

The previous tenant was a 45-year-old woman, currently being sought for questioning.

It’s not known if the victims are her newborns -- or when and how they died -- but a Bavarian police official revealed that most of the corpses were in “poor condition.”

He said detectives are interviewing neighbors in an effort to learn more about the former occupant and her present whereabouts.

Serial infanticide has not been ruled out at this point in the investigation. However, the cause and manner of death for each of the seven dead babies hasn’t been determined yet, pending autopsies.

Similar cases have been making the headlines lately. For instance a 34-year-old Japanese woman was arrested this summer after five of her day-old infants were unearthed near her home in the Ehime prefecture.

Months before that grisly find, a 51-year-old Frenchwoman had finally been sentenced for slaying nine of her offspring over the course of a decade. The heavyset defendant hid her “accidental” pregnancies, killing all of her unwanted children within only minutes of home-birthing them.
