A registered sex offender who caged a woman in his home for over four months is on the run this week, after the “hysterical” victim escaped captivity and reported him to police via 911.
James Horn Jr. has been listed on the national registry since 1992 when he was convicted in Tennessee of sexually assaulting a 22-year-old woman, and has amassed other kidnapping and rape convictions in the years hence.
Investigators say the 47-year-old suspect fled the premises before they arrived there, but that an inspection of his Missouri home turned up “a large wooden box consistent with what the female described."
They believe the relationship between the two was originally consensual, but that when the 38-year-old woman attempted to terminate it last January, she was imprisoned by the sex offender so she couldn’t leave.
A police spokesman says the formerly caged woman is at a "safe place” now and “doing well considering the circumstances.”
