Iowa State freshman Emmalee Jacobs (below) was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver on Monday morning as she was walking toward campus to take a final exam.

A week later, police still have no idea who the fleeing motorist was and are asking the public’s help in solving the tragedy “before potential witnesses” -- other ISU students -- go home for the holidays.

They are also urging the killer “to come forward” on their own so Emmalee Jacob’s bereaved parents can be given some “answers about what happened” to their 18-year-old daughter, and why she was left for dead.

In the meantime, detectives are scouring the area for more informative surveillance footage of the accident, and checking local auto-body shops for cars that might have come in “with frontend damage.”

Anyone with information about this vehicular homicide should alert the Ames Police Department at 515-239-5133 without delay.

Tips can also be submitted via phone or text-message to the Story County Crime Stoppers hotline at 515-382-7577. (Text the word ‘STORYCOUNTY’ plus your tip to 847411.)
