Some creep pulled up to Matt Murraine’s South Dakota home in the middle of the night last week and made off with his monster of a pumpkin.
“They backed right up to the house. That's pretty brazen,” he said, adding that the Great Pumpkin he was cultivating for the amusement of neighborhood children -- including his own -- had reached over 100 pounds already.
Growing an estimated two more inches per day, that would have been an awesome Jack-O-Lantern come Halloween night in Spearfish SD, if it hadn’t been for some very bold and selfish criminal.
Murraine told reporters that Friday evening’s Great Pumpkin heist had also been carefully planned, too.
“They brought a saw,” he said, pointing to a severed vine in his pumpkin patch. “You could see on the stem where they cut it.”
He’s bitter about being burgled of the local marvel, which he said might have fetched as much as $200 at a farmers market, but isn’t prepared to press charges:
Whether they stole it to sell or make pies though, “I want them to feel guilty about taking it from kids,” Murraine said.
