Why was a Texas Woman Arrested for Reporting Animal Cruelty?

Nov 7, 2015

The conscientious Texas woman who outed owners of a “porch pooch” puppy for animal cruelty this month was arrested herself, although no charges were pressed against the alleged abusers.

Amber Cammack uploaded photos and video to Facebook showing her neighbors’ diapered pup “June” confined to a balcony with its muzzle tied shut.

She also contacted local authorities who investigated the case of the porch-bound dog, but, although they “did not condone” June’s callous treatment, found “no probable cause” to prosecute the owners, they claimed.

However, because Ms. Cammack’s disturbing images had quickly gone viral on social media -- creating an understandable maelstrom of protest – she was arrested for violating the neighbors’ right to privacy.

That injustice has served to further offend animal rights activists, both on the internet and in the Houston area, who are now collectively demanding that the original abuse report, once and for all, be properly investigated.

“I’m disgusted with the fact that I can’t report a crime and nobody’s helped the dog,” Amber Cammack told reporters upon being released from jail after spending 14 hours there with “murderers” and “drug dealers.”
