#BREAKING - Kentucky’s embattled county clerk Kim Davis has been found in violation of a federal court order and taken into police custody by U.S. Marshals today.
She will reportedly remain jailed until her office begins issuing marriage licenses to gay couples seeking to wed.
As a matter of law, deputy clerks in Rowan County may give their authorization to such unions while their head clerk is detained. However, it’s not clear if any will do so since all such certificates bear Davis’s name and official insignia.
For that reason, conscientious-objector #KimDavis had previously instructed all her deputies not to process any marriage applications for either heterosexual or homosexual couples, following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision that gay marriage is a Constitutionally sanctified right.
Davis, who resorted to nepotism to obtain her county job, has exhausted all appeals by now. Yet she continued to defy federal orders and the law of the land by turning away same sex couples this week, resulting in today’s emergency contempt-of-court hearing.
She has actually been married a handful of times herself and allegedly gave birth out of wedlock to at least two children -- mortal sins which the unforgiving public official claims God has long ago “forgiven” and which might explain why the judge who had Davis arrested today found her religious objections incredible.
