BREAKING NEWS: Ferguson Police Chief Has Just Resigned

In breaking news, the Ferguson police chief has just resigned, tendering his resignation to city leaders as well as delivering it at a crowded press gathering.

In that farewell, the chief of Ferguson’s hopelessly-embattled police department, Thomas Jackson, declared that “it is with profound sadness that I am announcing I am stepping down from my position as chief.”

“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve this great city and to serve with all of you,” he added. “I will continue to assist the city in anyway [sic] I can in my capacity as private citizen.”

Ferguson police patchWhile a big surprise to many, Jackson’s departure is rumored to have been ordered by Ferguson’s top brass following the federal government’s recent and blistering review of the Ferguson Police Department’s systematic abuse of black citizens.

Jackson is now the sixth casualty of the fallout from the Michael Brown police-shooting last year, which, despite the victim’s criminal background, set off riots and looting together with an indefensible onslaught of blame and legal scrutiny.

Now, with the chief of police and his ilk gone, Ferguson officials undoubtedly hope they can more ably ward off -- or settle cheaply -- all the inevitable lawsuits they’ll soon be bombarded with as a result.
