Cop Who Fatally Struck Pedestrian Smelled of Booze - IMPD

Sep 25, 2015

The off-duty Indianapolis cop who fatally struck a pedestrian last night “smelled of alcohol,” according to an IMPD supervisor who was among the first responders on the scene.

“The officer was transported to hospital for a blood draw,” he told an NBC news crew.

The patrolman suspected of drinking and driving reported the incident himself, only minutes after a 911 operator dispatched fellow officers to investigate an anonymous call about someone walking in the roadway.

The unidentified victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and the case has been referred to the district prosecutor for possible criminal charges, a spokesman for the IMPD announced this morning.

BAC test results of the off-duty cop who fatally struck the pedestrian have not come back at this time -- he too has not been named yet.
