Cop Who Shot Corey Jones Three Times Had Checkered Career - FLA

Oct 22, 2015

Records show that the cop who gunned down stranded motorist Corey Jones, as the musician apparently fled from him, has a very checkered career in law enforcement.

Prior to this week’s fatal shooting near Jupiter Florida, plainclothesman Nouman Raja was employed at another police department where he was “reprimanded” by commanding officers for “derelictions” of duty.

That finding, according to Raja’s disciplinary file, concerned numerous episodes of “mishandling” evidence and repeatedly failing to file accurate “paperwork” on the job.

Raja was also found in possession of a suspect’s prescription drugs, a serious violation for which he faced suspension, likely without pay.

A full autopsy on slain church drummer Corey Jones hasn’t been completed yet, but preliminary results show he had been shot by Officer Raja three times; two of those bullets creating both entry and exit wounds.

Contrary to Raja’s account of discharging his gun only after being “confronted by an armed subject,” Mr. Jones -- who had a legal permit to carry and conceal a firearm himself -- never fired a single shot at him.
